WHAT WE DO

Training
Uncuffed offers education and rehabilitation through audio storytelling workshops in California Institution for Women, San Quentin, and Solano prisons. Participants develop job skills and create award-winning work heard internationally and in over 1000 prisons and jails.

Alumni of Uncuffed have gone on to become professional podcasters, documentary filmmakers, and organizers, applying their storytelling skills to advocate for change.
Uncuffed Podcast and Stories
Uncuffed, the only voices you hear are people directly impacted by the prison system. They are the hosts, interviewers, and subjects of the stories.

Our award-winning storytelling has been featured on NPR, in The New York Times, The Guardian, and many other outlets.

Uncuffed is vulnerable and personal. It's about the humanity in all of us.
The Uncuffed Playlist
Music shows hosted by student DJs at Solano State Prison. Uncuffed DJs choose an hour of their favorite music and reveal how those songs relate to their lives, exploring themes such as love, loss, and the daily struggle to survive.

Listen on YouTube or on KALW, Saturday nights from midnight to 2 am.

IMPACT

Uncuffed has offered groundbreaking radio training inside prisons for over a decade. Our participants gain professional skills that empower them to change narratives about people in prison.

We’ve worked with over 80 participants, and aired over 200 of their stories and shows. To our knowledge, we have a 0% recidivism rate. No Uncuffed participant has ever returned to prison.

Uncuffed alumni include professional podcasters, documentary filmmakers, and many others who have gone on to careers in media, communications, and advocacy.

SUPPORT UNCUFFED

Join us in creating the next chapter of Uncuffed. We’re bringing our training program to incarcerated women for the first time. And we’re creating more job opportunities for Uncuffed graduates.
